About Jag Lathan

Dr. Jag Lathan understands the power of a strong public education—because she has lived both the challenges and the possibilities it can create. As a young student, she struggled to learn to read and often felt unseen in the classroom—but with the support of educators who believed in her, she found her voice and her path forward. As a teenage mother, she faced significant challenges along her journey—but with the unwavering support of her mother, grandmother, and a teacher who refused to give up on her, she stayed on her path and continued her education.

Today, Dr. Jag Lathan is a lifelong public educator, CEO, and Antioch Unified School Board President running for Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools. With more than 25 years of experience, she has served as a teacher in Los Angeles Unified, a principal in Emeryville, an Executive Director at the San Diego County Office of Education, and Chief of Learning and Accountability at the Alameda County Office of Education—leading at every level of the public education system and delivering results for students and families.

These experiences give her a unique, countywide perspective and the proven leadership needed to support Contra Costa County’s 19 school districts, strengthen collaboration, and drive results for all students.

Dr. Jag Lathan believes education can disrupt cycles of poverty and that strong public schools are the foundation of thriving communities and a healthy democracy—and she is committed to delivering results for every student in Contra Costa County.
